Las Americas Restaurant

Las Americas Restaurant, SE 46th Lane, Cape Coral, FL., A grumbling in my tummy, 2 cents on the food and chit chat. CHATTER...Well here is a gem on the outskirts of the food area of The Cape. This is under new management. It is only a eatery no longer a store. Serving Cuban & American cuisine.
They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner along with take out. Lets not forget they do catering.
The food... I sampled for my first time the cuban tamale. It is not as spicy as a mexican tamale. This had pork/rice it was lighter than expected but very good. I could have chow down 4-5.
My main entree was a whole fried fish, rice/beans, fried plantains and a salad. A nice round out meal.
The fish was fried just right, I loved the not too crispy plantains & rice/beans. Though I added hot sauce (thats me) it was a wonderful meal.
Service was excellent and price was just right.
So when in the mood for cuban or whatever seek this place out.

Ruth Chris Steakhouse

Ruth Chris Steakhouse, Village Shops Way, Estero, FL. A grumbling in my tummy, 2 cents on the food and chatter. This is a  once a year deal where I spend too much money on a meal. I got a shrimp cocktail, filet mignon ( medium rare of course ) , clam chowder, creamed spinach and a apple cheesecake dessert. ( Hot bread included). The food. Clam Chowder, I thought it was me but my dining companion concurred, there was too much over whelming smoky bacon in the chowder. Bacon is fine but it should never out do the main ingredient. Shame Shame. Shrimp cocktail. The sauce was a delight. Spicy enough. I missed, when it was usually served in a big glass of ice. Creamed spinach for 10 bucks I should have a BIGGER portion. The ingredients are inexpensive enough. Filet Mignon served on a sizzling hot plate , cooked to perfection.... MMMMM good. The dessert, just enough to open a belt notch.
Overall a good dining experience. When with companions, no dine and dash, you savor the moments of the taste buds.

Las Brisas Mexican Restaurant

Las Brisas Mexican Restaurant, Pondella Rd., North Fort Myers, FL. Here is my 2 cents on the food and chit chat. The food. WOW everything is house made and fresh. The chili rellenos is the best I have had since leaving California. The daily made salsa is wonderful. Flavorful...I would like it more caliente but it is designed for the wimps of florida.
Reasonable prices good portions and excellent service.
A must try for authentic food

La Bodeguita del Medio de Cape Coral

La Bodeguita del Medio Cape Coral, NE Pine Island Rd., Cape Coral, FL., Here is my 2 cents on the food and chit chat.
Chit chat.... I have no idea what I ate. I know it was chicken with a red sauce and onions. Plus some fried plantains with garlic. It was ok but never more. Why you ponder? NO ONE spoke ENGLISH and the menu was in spanish. With terrible english translation. It was 12pm on a sunday. The owner/cook and wife/server was the only folks there. Owner was very nice but english limited.
I did have a fresh squeeze lemonade with frothy ice. Perfect between sweet and tart. It seems like a good place with potential BUT DO NOT GO unless you have a spanish translator.

Oh yes when you leave you can only turn right on pine island. I searched around for other routes. NONE..

Foster Grille

Foster Grille, Pine Island, Cape Coral, FL., Here is my 2 cents on the food and chit chat.
The food. I order a 1/2 pound burger, medium rare, with grilled onions, pickles, tomatoes and a few others items. Plus a side of fries. 9 bucks or so...To Go.... It takes me 7 minutes to drive home. How can you ruin a burger/fries!! They did. The fries were cold and hard. If they had been fresh...they would have been hot and soggy from the ride home.. This cook ... it must have been the first day on a job.  The burger, medium well!  yecccchhhh. Plus instead of putting my condiment ON TOP of the meat.He placed it on the bottom of the bun.  ( look at pic ). When I went to grab it it just fell apart.
This is literally the worst burger order I have ever had. ( that includes eating a Mc *ee place). I have eaten here before... it was good. This meal was just plain horrible.
The bad part I was in 2 days of anticipation for this burgers.

Phil's 41

Phil's 41, Tamiami Trail, Punta Gorda, FL.,  Here is my 2 cents on the food and some chit chat. The food. BUT... Well folks some crazy old white witch change lanes,( without looking of course) and almost ran me off the road.... Which brings me to my drink. 2 for 1 at happy time. I was lucky this place actually had brandy...Brandy seems to be oblivious in the redneck state of Florida.. Only in the more refine eateries have I  come across this beverage of grapes.
I bring all this up because I ask for my 2 drinks in one tall glass.... How am I served my brandy and cola?? In a well marked beer glass... ahhhh... I guess this is as close as being sophisticated as I will find.
My meal... I was presented with fresh out of the oven bread, crusty on outside hot and fluffy inside mmmmm good. And real butter. This is a fading thing in most restaurants. I order P.E.I. mussels and spaghetti.  What is P.E.I.??? It means the mussels are larger and come from a place called Prince Edward Island.
I do not care... this dish was fabulous. Though a bit hard maybe to open a mussel or so it tasted fresh and good.Kudo's to the cook, season just right.
Since I survived  that white crazy redneck witch. I treated myself to dessert. I am sorry I forget the name of this cake, but if you look at the pic , it is more pie looking. It has whipped cream and made of wonderful chocolate. So gooood!!!!
Service was great folks all were nice.

Colleoni Eatery

Colleoni Eatery and Bakery, Mcgregor Blvd., Fort Myers, FL., Here is my 2 cents on the food and chit chat. I had a cuppa coffee, bread and herb butter with a bacon onion and sweet pepper frittata.
Coffee was a ok. Bread and fresh made herb butter was excellent. The frittata, basically the italian version of a omelet. Which means in plain english to properly describe it, it is a scramble like eggs with the ingredients mix up. Plus it is cooked in a oven. It tasted just fine. BUT for the bottom line is just cost more.(see pics) I paid 13 bucks for the above meal...Oh how I suffer for my hobby moneywise. I guess for the extra labor the meal is worth the money.. Its different.
The service was great ambiance was nice and there is a fresh bakery & DRIVE -THRU available.

Ana's Cafe

Ana's Cafe, Widman Way, FT. Myers, FL., A grumbling in my tummy, my 2 cents on the food a bit of chatter. The food. Banh Mi or a wannabe vietnamese sandwich. This is a pork filled with cilantro, carrots, cucumber and onions. On a soft roll. They were missing the very thin sliced hot peppers. The pork  was tasty. Over all well balanced for the floridians taste buds. BUT NOT a true vietnamese sandwich. Good if you need something different. Cole slaw as a side was well made.
Over all fresh ingredients and good service.
I would come back and try something else on the menu.

McGregor Cafe

McGregor Cafe, Mcgregor Blvd., Ft. Myers, FL. A growling in my tummy, 2 cents on the food and chit chat. The food & chit chat. House made sweet tea in a 32oz. mason jar with refills, pretty good. My salad was house made potatoes salad, creamy mayo, onions and such very good.  A sandwich... The Cowboy!!!
On a slight warmed barely toasted roll, with cream cheese, ham, tomato, lettuce and red onion. 10 bucks w/side.
First....why is this called a cowboy? Nothing in it says old west. The ham itself had no flavor + not a lot of ham. Cream cheese was barely a smear, a single piece of lettuce but 2 large slices of tomato and a large slice of onion. (This is what I tasted). Over all this "Cowboy" was terrible. Plus for 10 bucks I really I felt ripped off. My bill over all was 14 bucks. I could have had a 18 inch sub sandwich for 10 dollars in the Cape.
Chit chat. Service was excellent. BUT ...... When I entered I felt it was too cramped... Tables were too close to each other. Sitting outside is prefer..... except today is was very breezy. Lunch is NOT served until 11 AM. And there is NO waffles on the menus.

Salty Papa Shrimp House

Salty Papa's Shrimp House, McGregor Blvd, Fort Myers, FL., A grumbling in tummy, 2 cents on the food and chatter.
I order the FB special . 1/2 lb. shrimp, coleslaw and fries. I got 8 or so count of shrimp about 3 inches in size grilled in garlic. MMMMM. I love the coleslaw very creamy and favorable. Fries crispy galore.
But I must say Salty is more than shrimp. They have fried chicken and waffles, gumbo. po boy and hamburgers etc. The staff is top notched.
Though they are a bit of a drive from the Coma (30 mins. ) well worth the excursion.
Look for  the FB special or just go for a excellent meal. It is well worth it.

Twisted Lobster

Twisted Lobster, Del Prado Blvd., Cape Coral, FL., A grumbling in my tummy, 2 cents on the food and some chit chat. The food. I dived into the fish and chips. 9 bucks.  Plus the lobster bisque. I also had their house made sweet tea. Tea was sweet enough. Very good. My side of coleslaw with  bits of pine apple, which seems to be the rage now, Was a slightly salty, slightly sweet and none too over done with a mayo. Good stuff.  Ahh the lobster bisque was creamy, smooth tasting with chunks of lobster and very filling.
The chips or french fries were coated with a house secret of sorts. It was covered in nice extra tasting. The fish was crispy, cooked properly and a delight on my taste buds. A good version of the england fish & chips.
But my personal like is the bigger steak size fries. This size is a bit hard to find.
Service was outstanding. The owner came by and answer my questions.
It is always a plus when the owner and/or the chef comes to you table for whatever the reason. Nice job!

Leroy Southern Kitchen and Bar

Leroy Southern Kitchen and Bar,West Marion Ave., Punta Gorda, FL., A grumbling in my tummy, 2 cents on the food and chatter. .....The food. Fried chicken thighs on biscuits with gravy and smash red skin potatoes. OBA OBA OBA ( Brasilian for  WOW ). The chicken is the very best I have found since being here. 9 bucks?
It was fried to perfection, crispy, moist and had a outstanding coating with flavor. Simple so good. Biscuits were light and fluffy. The taters were homemade with the skins still on ( extra vitamins ). Gravy smooth and delish.( I would have like a bit of hot pepper. ) Oh lets not forget the big mason jar of house sweet tea..... Why these restaurants  do not advertise that they make their own sweet tea is beyond me. It is usually so much better than commercial stuff.
Over all a great meal. The 30 minute drive is worth it. Parking is a bit of a challenge. Service was great.
