Mona Lisa Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria, WOW great crust

Mona Lisa Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria, Santa Barbara Blvd, Cape Coral, Fl.,Here is some chit chat and my 2 cents on the food.
Well D**n this was good.
I saw the sign and thought another pizza joint. I was not that hungry so I decided  on the 12 inch calzone with personal modification. The original was ham, ricotta, mozzarella and pizza sauce.14 bucks.
Mine was pepperoni and mushroom. The price 18 bucks
It should be noted that everyday they run a special ie 2 for 1, 50 cents, etc.
So I was not being my frugal self this time. WOW I am glad I was not.
The food.
My calzone was outstanding. The crust was crispy, flaky and light.. Plenty of mushrooms and pepperoni with abundant of cheese. The sauce was fresh and a bit chunky. It was flavorful enough so no needed of red peppers for me.
I was truly surprised as to how much I enjoyed this.
The folks and service was a delight. So give this joint a try. I think you will enjoy it.

Mimi's Cafe, food fine service ehhhh

Mimi's Cafe, Bell Tower Shops, Ft. Myers,Fl, Here is my 2 cents on the food and chit chat.
First the food. I enjoyed the OJ nice amount of pulp. Coffee was fine.(3.29)
I got the pecan waffle.

You can get pecans  inside or on top. For extra 2 bucks you can get real maple syrup.
I loved the waffles. My eggs were cook to perfection. The pork sausage were a delight.
I was disappointed with the chicken/waffles.
You get boneless chicken breast.. Not the real deal. It tasted ok but when you have had the real deal you can be disappointed. I was.
Now the chit chat on a disappointing dining experience.
It was Tuesday morn when I arrived. Approximately 1010 AM. I waited 15 minutes. When I was seated I ordered my OJ & coffee. 10 minutes later it arrived. I waited 10 more minutes when I needed to flag down my server to place my order. 15 minutes later I got my pecan waffle. Half way thru my waffle I had to ask for my eggs/ sausage plus a refill on the coffee.
To make a long story short I was there for 1 hour and 20 minutes. If you look at my pics you will see there were empty tables abound.

Food was good.
Dining experience was terrible. Long time before I come back.

South Cape Diner, A gem in plain sight

South Cape Diner, Cape Coral Parkway, Cape Coral, Fl., Here is some chit chat and 2 cents on the food.
I enter from the big parking lot in the rear. I pass by the kitchen area. Lo and behold I wa given a big good morning from the the dish washer. His arms up to the elbow with suds. HMMM
I was greeted warmly and seated promptly.
I requested a coffee. My server was a johnny on the spot.

I placed my waffle, eggs over easy and ham.It arivved in about 5-6 minutes. Waffle was dusted in powder sugar along with maple syrup on the side. My eggs were done to perfection and still hot.
This meal was fabulous. The workers all were buzzing like bees. Had smiles on faces. I was being checked up on. Coffee be refilled.
I thought I was in Superman Bizarro World... No place is this nice. I woke up an hour ago and no medications yet. So I was not dreaming.
It would be great if all places were like this South Cape Diner. I will have to return to find out.
So please try this place and assure me I was correct.

Kumo Japanese Steakhouse

Kumo Japanese Steak House, Santa Barbara Blvd, Cape Coral, Fl. Here is my 2 cents on the food and some chit chat.
Wow I must say this has to be one of the best lunches I have had in a while.
I had the Shrimp Tempura Bento Box.
The salad was cold and crisp.
Miso soup was tasty and heated properly.
The tempura was onion ring, broccoli, a squash and large shrimp. It was fried with a great delicate breading to a crispy crunch. Lots of flavor. Loved the california roll sushi. The egg rolls was crispy and very tasty.
The dipping sauce was mild but added a twist to the fried item.
Service was right on the mark. Prices were excellent for this meal.

Wally's Southern Style BBQ, Not impress

Wally Southern Style BBQ, Tamiami Trl, Port Charlotte,Fl, Here is my 2 cents on the food and some chit chat. I took home a combo meal for 20 bucks, I got hotlinks, polish sausage, and brisket. Sides of spicy cole slaw and green beans.
The best part was the toasted bread.
The cole slaw was just housemade with cayenne pepper added to the slaw. not very impress. The green bean were what I expected not too bad. A bigger portion would be nice.
One thing that was missing which I did not think I would have to ask for was BBQ sauce. NONE ZIP.
I figure they would give me some without asking. Polish sausage was ok, hot links not very hot. Beef brisket, they need to go to Texas and learn how it is done.
I went here because a number of folks said it was good. But I am thinking this must be maybe the only one in Port Charlotte.  Then again my experience here in SWFL( 5 years) I have come to realize most folks are not very adventurous. They do not seem to know or wish to experience good cuisine.
I guess I will stick to The Cape/ Fort Myers BBQ. I have found 4-6 good ones. Plus one that was listed in tripadvisor as outstanding this year.
If I offend someone so be it. I am spoiled as a 35 years foodie and self taught cook from the San Francisco Bay Area in California. But a chef/cook needs to get out of their comfort zone and do it right.

Hana Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Lounge, eehhhhh ok

Hana Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Lounge, Hancock Bridge Parkway, Cape Coral, Fl., Here is my 2 cents on the food and some chit chat. First the good food. I order the seaweed salad.
It was great cold crunchy with flavor. I order the teriyaki steak Bento Box.
The rice was rice. The steak was very tender and flavorable. Sushi was good. The what egg rolls not so great.
The salad was too drench in a over seasoned sesame dressing.
The miso soup...ehhhh no flavor at all. I though it was swamp water
. Oh yes the sweet tea was too weak and not enough sugar.
This place has just open in last 3 weeks or so. There are always bugs to work out for a new place.
But that is no excuse for plain bad food.
Service was fine.
I will give it another chance in 2-3 months but try at your own risk for now

Celtic Ray Irish Pub , not worth the drive for fish and chips

Celtic Ray Irish Pub, E. Marion, Punta Gorda, Fl, Here is my 2 cents on the food and some chit chat.
First food. See my pic. $11.00 for this meal.
11 bucks???
The fish though fried properly was bad. It was not fresh. The best way to describe it was kinda stringy. The portion size was way too small. The chips were just frozen steak fries. Cole slaw was ok. The best part was the irish soda bread. I never had it before and tasted pretty good. Overall for 11 bucks this is not worth my time, money or going here. I can think of 5 eateries in The Cape/Ft. Myers area that outshines this place.
The service was ok.
People that think this is good just once again proves my point. Floridians have unsophisticated taste bud. They just do not know good food.
In my humble opinion look some where else.
