What a surprise I had when I found a week old Popeyes nears me. Another place I was going to was closed for renovation.
Well I popped in and paid full price, no coupon. I got red beans & rice, spicy chicken and biscuits. The chicken & biscuits were up to pare. So was the beans. BUT The rice was under-cooked. Shame on you guys. But being a week open there are always a bit of mistakes. Let hope they rectify by next visit.
The staff were quick and friendly Kudos to you all.

Not worth my time to go....Beef O Brady's
rholland63.yelp.com rholland63.blogspot.com....My 2 cents....Well, I have never heard of Beef O Brady til I moved to SWFL. I could have waited longer.
First food before chit chat. ......I got the O' Brady hamburger.
The cook did prepare it to my order of med rare. Though it said to cooked from med and above to shoe leather. Thanks chef. It was a bit messy. I needed 3 napkins. The brioche bun I find to be just advertising bull. The spicy mustard, on the side, was not spicy at all. It was just a dijon. horseradish folks.
The fries were just fries. No big whoop.. Just an average chain style burger.
My sweet tea was not sweet. The first cup I could taste chemicals . I ask for a new one. I got one no questions ask.
Chit Chat... My greeter & server..Sky....( parents must have been late hippies) She did an outstanding job even when she got hit with a rush of folks. Why people filled this place up I wonder????? Not the burgers. The salt container, which I personally hate was one of those grinders..ugh. It Said sea salt. PEOPLE IT IS ALL SEA SALT. It ALL comes from the sea. the grind is the only difference.
The so call spicy mustard was NOT very spicy.
There is 14 TV's around the place...... As I was leaving it was filling up. I am not sure what they know that I do not know. But being in SWFL for a while I do know the people DO NOT know or APPRECIATE good food.
So here is my 2 cents.

Carnivore delight with redneck ambiance....Texas Roadhouse
rholland63.yelp.com rholland63.blogspot.com. Well I finally took the road hazard of floridians driver and drove to satisfy my carnivore craving at Texas Roadhouse.
Lets jump into the food. BEEF. Lots of it. With a glass case of meat at the entrance you cannot be wrong. The first thing they hit you with are the rolls. Fresh every 6-7 minutes all you want. They are similar to the hawaiian style roll in the grocery store but BETTER. They are made with a tad of honey and molasses and covered with butter served hot & fresh .
Next you get a bucket of roasted peanuts at your table.
You can be civilize and place the shells in a plate or another bucket. But hell why. You got redneck country music a bit too loud overhead. Just drop them on the floor.
I order medium rare prime rib ,green beans, and all important steak fries.
This is only the place I have found REAL steak cut fries in SWFL... Along with au jus and horseradish sauce. The sauce could have use more horseradish.
My entree arrived 10 minutes or so minus my fries. The prime was cooked to a perfect med rare & the green beans were fabulous. The meat was coated with a more than salt & black pepper coating different but good. I was done with my green beans and 1/2 my meat when my steak fries showed up. Worth the wait yes..hot and crispy.
Now the service and such.
My server Andrea was right on ball. She explained my options and was friendly. Though she was a bit busy she got my seconds on tea and rolls as needed. Everyone was friendly with a salutations. I did not believe the t-shirt of the servers were wearing " I love my job at Texas Roadhouse". Really who loves a serving job..;-(. Except for the long wait of steak fries , over all not too shabby service. All with a smile.

A bit of a Heaven in The Cape
WOW!!!! SLATE'S...I have had this booked mark for a while. I am ashamed I waited so long.
I must warn all the wimpy SW Floridians who do not appreciate real & spicy food. Stay Away. This is for the adventurous.
I was here for lunch on a Friday. Around noon time..
My server Cheri was fantastic. Attentive ,able to quote the special of the day, & answer my questions.
The Gumbo was OUTSTANDING. It was almost as good as mine
. It had just the right amount of roux. Along with shrimp, andouille, and chicken . The layer of flavor was great. It was spicy enough so you did not need to add more heat. Just enough to say aaahhhhh. The dish alone would make most Floridians cry big tears.
The shrimp po boy is to die for....4 fresh off the boat large shrimp. Cooked to melt in mouth your texture. The sauce was just enough to compliment the shrimp. The cajun potatoes are so good..
So for all you wannabe Mardi Gras folks You MUST come here. You will not be disappointed in the cuisine.

The Island... Should be on a island
Well folks this is the second time I have been here. In a word or two pass on by.
My first taste was fish taco's too greasy not enough.
This time..Lets start with the good. Great waiter, outstanding salsa, and pretty good non american style chicken soup. Salsa was just spicy enough and fresh. Soup a good grilled chicken noodle style
.
Now My shrimp plate. The shrimp was fresh. I had it grilled but the seasoning was complicated & scattered. I was unable to determine what flavor they were trying to feature. They provided a cocktail sauce which was horrible. It was a ketchup with a bit of horseradish much too sweet.
On the table was a so called hot sauce called Tabanero. Per the bottle it was from Mexico . Terrible not hot- no flavor.
The Island has good bones to be a good Caribbean eatery. BUT the menu is all over the board. steak-burrito- seafood. It does not know what it is. Neither do I. So maybe if they can redo the menu and find out who they are ....it has great potential.

Popeyes ... best chix I have found in The Cape & Ft. Myers
As some may know I prefer local joints. No Chains. But my quest for fried chicken has just led me to here. I have been going here for 3 years or so. Always for lunch. Each time I have been here (6 times or so) I have received my order accurate and quickly. If there is a issue they let me know . Food is alway fresh, spicy & delish. So unless someone can direct me to a better local eatery..this is my place.
McGregor Pizza & Deli....HHHmmmm not too sure
I had a doctors appointment in Fort Myers & needed to try a new place. McGregor Pizza & Deli was on a list of the local food critic ,places to check out. This gentleman has been mostly correct in his reviews. BUT not this time , not for the Chicago Italian style beef sandwich.
I ask my server about it. She stated it was the most popular sandwich. So I told her I was a virgin with this sammy hit me up. Make it like the local yodels eat it and add the spicy stuff. WOW it did look good but upon a couple of bites. It really suck. The good part was the roll. It was perfectly toasted and airy with a nice flavor. BUT the beef had no flavor and was BOILED too much. Even adding the so call spicy girdnieir did not help. I ate half of the sandwich and took other half home. I tried it again cold and micro. Well it just plain suck for me. Hopefully the turkey buzzards will enjoy the rest in the morning. I cannot speak for the pizza, calzone or stromboli but Once again the folks here in SWFL have REALLY bad taste buds.
