The New England Moorings Seafood & Moor , Good food Old Sckool atmospherea

Well if you need a break from everyday type eatery & wish a little oddball fun...come here.
This is the old style kitschy Florida vibe restaurant. Fun for kids, parents . One and all.
This Moorings is hidden from view off a main drag in The Cape. It was surprising to me as it was only a 10 minute ride from my house.
I was pointed and lured here by a gift certificate. Remember I am a frugal diner.. Enough chit chat we are here for the food.
As most seafood places are a bit high in prices this is no exception. BUT. They made up by dropping off samples of various things. From fish to dessert with a amaretto drink. It was WONDERFUL..
I was hungry so I got the Onion ring appetizer. Hand cut, breaded and fried so tasty.
I then went out of my comfort zone and order Scrod with a mango Salsa. I had no idea what scrod was but it was good. Fried and golden brown on outside moist & delicate on the inside. The salsa was tangy and sweet.. I do not like mango per se. This was good..
Now more chit chat.
The TV's were playing video from music shows 20+  years gone by. The table were such that when its crowded you will be sharing them with strangers. The decorations were Floridian tacky and fun of by gone days.
Over all a great experience with food and frolic.

Ahhh B & B Fish 'n Chip

Well a small fish 'n chip eatery with a fish market with reasonable prices.
I order the Fish 'n Chip and was pleasantly suprize. Lets start with the side. Cole Slaw that is made in house. So it is not cookie cutter flavor such as I have found. The same style but a good & unique  flavor. The chips are unique too ,waffle shape, crispy on the outside tasty on inside.
Ahhh the main character. The fish. It was cooked to a crispy brown. The inside flesh was moist and flavor able. Add some malt vinegar and you are off and running to a good meal .The staff were helpful and responsive to my queries.
Plus they will be open on Sundays. Most other places are closed
The have a fresh fish market with reasonable prices. If they do not have it The boat has not returned

Jill's Joint, only game in industrial park

Well I have seen this place advertise for past years. It pointed out breakfast but had lunch and dinner.
I made the mistake of going for lunch and had a sandwich of sort. The breakfast I saw were good looking and well proportional. It felt homey and divey at the same time.
But I am all about the food. In this case I requested a French Dip.
A French Dip with au jus came from the Phillppe Restaurant, 1920's in Los Angeles,Ca..  It thin sliced beef on roll with thin gravy on the side.
THIS WAS NOT.
I will say the onion rings were great. but please
I got a pot roast sandwich on french roll with cheese. Plus a thick gravy on side. If they had told me this is what they meant I would have gotten something. It tasted fine but not what I expected.

Anyway IF you wish to be adventurous, drive to the middle of an industrial park , give the breakfast a try.

German Bakery and More..good food great pasties

I was feeling a bit ethic so I tried the new German eatery .

Nice place wonderful and helpful staff. The place to come for real desserts
But I tried a sandwich first, The Vienna. A Schnitzel (breaded pork loin). on  a french baguette.
It was properly seasoned and tasted good. But I thought the edges were over cooked since they were on the blacken side. The fries were thin and tasty. There was a german meatball used as garnish. It was cold but good with lots of garlic.

Overall a good place. BUT an OUTSTANDING BAKERY, fresh made bread, cream puffs, chocolate eclairs, apple strudels to name a few. So if you are not adventurous

enough for good german food. At least get your sweet tooth a real treat at the bakery.

World Famous Cheesesteak.. I think not!!!!!

Well I was hungry for meat being the carnivore I am.  Saw this ad of World Famous Cheesesteak.
I was suck in and ripped off.
But first the good. The place had 8 or so tables and booths. Most were occupied. I was greeted by all workers. And it was not forced.
They took my order and said it would be 10 minutes..That was true to form .
Anyway the smell of the sandwich filled my car and got me hungry.
But when I opened the box was I disappointed. It was a small sandwich cut in two. Not enough cheese, meat onions peppers.  (See my pics)  to qualify for a Deluxe sandwich. Plus at $7.50 I felt ripped off.  It tasted ok but NEVER MORE.

MMMMM fantastic OKUK Fish & Chips

I have been  anticipating fish &  chips for the pass  2 months. My swim buddy turned me on to  OK UK British Fish & Chips. I was not disappointed. They even have Sarson Malt vinegar. The real deal from England. Created 1791 in London..

I got the King size fish & chips. An inch thick  beer batter Atlantic cod. It was cooked to perfection. Lightly brown on the outside juicy and moist on the inside. It was delished. Along with hand cut chips,( thick cut french fries for you non world travelers). A side roll and coleslaw. Cole slaw was good not great. But you come here for the beer batter fish.

Prices are reasonable for SWFL. It is tucked away in a strip mall. A bit hard to find but when you need a fix of fish & chip worth the trip.

It is not my week for good food

Cajun Bowl.... I have seen the ads for a few months.  It is only 2 miles away or so.
I had high expectations. I love gumbo I make a GREAT GUMBO. I have had outstanding gumbo in Oakland,Ca eatery, and friends grandma recipes. .   BUT

The good first.. Beautiful decor, wonderful folks and a surprising tasty potato salad.

The gumbo..... Wow it was very watery , no roux, not thick bad texture. The taste was overwhelm with too much smokiness . Plenty of sausage though that was good., the rice should have been served on the side or in a cradle. It had a good heat .. It sneaked up on you... Over all thumbs down.

Red beans and rice....NOPE... no flavor just beans mixed with rice. Better taste out of a box.

I hate writing negative reviews but I am for the flavor of the food.

Also 10 bucks for a gumbo and canned tea seems a bit pricey. I was hoping for house sweet tea. I was hoping for better.
